Chandigarh | January 2026
After days of intense cold and freezing mornings, residents of Chandigarh finally experienced much-needed relief as the day time chandigrah temperature climbed to 22 degrees Celsius on Saturday. The rise in mercury brought a noticeable change in weather, offering comfort after a prolonged cold-wave spell across the region.
This rise in temperature was experienced not only at Chandigarh but also at surrounding localities such as Mohali and Panchkula which saw residents come out to access the winter sunshine.
Cold Wave Grip Finally Weakens
The Tricity area was fighting severe winter conditions, icy winds, poor visibility and bitter nights, over a week. The temperature reached as low as 6°C, and with heavy fogging, morning travel and routine was halted.
As the daytime temperature recently increased, the meteorological specialists were able to verify that the cold-weather conditions would only relax in the short term, which would give relief to the residents.
Day Temperatures Above Normal Levels
Maximum temperature of Chandigarh has not been dropping much below the seasonal average of about 3 to 4 degrees and this is a great change compared to the earlier days when Chandigarh could hardly cross 15°C.
The sunshine in the afternoon made the atmosphere a bit warmer and the conditions outside were much more comfortable than the ones of the previous week.
Chandigarh Hotter than the Hill Stations
Chandigarh also registered better temperatures than some of the hill destinations in an odd trend of winter. On the same day:
- Shimla recorded around 18°C
- In Manali, temperatures were in 14°C
- Kufri remained close to 12°C
This is a rare contrast to show how weather patterns in North India have started being even more unpredictable in this season.
Cold Nights Still Persist
Though the weather is pleasant during the day, there are still cold and chilly nights. The minimum temperatures remained close to 6°C, and locals should remember that winter is not over.
According to experts, it is a normal occurrence that the difference between the day and night temperatures in January is very sharp, particularly when the weather is dry.
Fog Likely During Morning and Night Hours
Although there is not much rainfall forecasted over the upcoming days, the likelihoods of these conditions persisting are high in the morning hours and evenings. The weather agencies have given warnings that commuters should be wary of the weather, especially on highways and open roads, where visibility can reduce abruptly.
Dubai drivers are encouraged to drive with fog lights and not at high speeds during the early hours.
What Lies Ahead
The meteorologists estimate that the day temperatures can be constant in the coming days, but night ones can slowly rise. Nevertheless, the second cold wave cannot be eliminated because January is usually characterized by unpredictable weather patterns in North India.
Today, the fact that it is up to 22°C is a welcome relief, a short respite from the severe winter that had prevailed over the area in the past days.
