The people of Ludhiana who have been enjoying a few minutes of sunshine during the winter were bound to see the weather alter within the coming few days. Thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and hailstorms are the weather conditions that the India Meteorological Agency (IMD) has predicted leading to a stop in the pleasant daytime temperatures experienced by the city.
The weather officials argue that the fluctuating conditions are due to an active western disturbance that is hitting much of north India including Punjab.
Weather of Pleasance to Clear the Way To Stormy Weather
The winter in Ludhiana was rather comfortable during the last several days, with a lot of sunshine and a high daytime temperature significantly exceeding the average one during the season. The top temperature was 22.6C on Wednesday, which is almost four degrees above the normal.
This relief is, however, temporary according to the meteorologists as the cloud cover will increase, and unstable weather conditions will start to take over the area.
IMD Declares Yellow and Orange warning
The IMD has been putting a set of weather warnings to inform residents and local authorities:
Thursday: Yellow Alert
- Thunderstorms and lightning are possible.
- Strong winds in isolated areas.
- Interim inconvenience of daily routines.
Friday: Orange Alert
- Stronger intensity thunderstorms.
- The activity of hailstorms is possible in most places.
- There is a danger of destruction of crops, vehicles and structures that are weak.
Unstable conditions may persist with occasional rain and strong winds though to date there is no official warning of the weekend.
Temperature Probably will Fall Dramatically
In the development of rain and storms, a significant decrease in temperature will occur over the Ludhiana:
- The daytime temperatures can drop as low as 16 C by Saturday.
- The night temperature is supposed to be between 5 o C and 6 o C.
- It is expected to be increasing gradually at the beginning of next week as long as the weather conditions remain stable.
The fall will probably give way to an additional cold winter, particularly in early mornings and late evenings.
Weather Concerns are added by Visibility Fluctuations
The city has already experienced the changing levels of visibility caused because of the fog and haze. On Wednesday morning, it was almost 200 metres with visibility though improving temporarily in the afternoon before worsening again in the evening.
According to meteorologists, these variations are symptomatic of a growing atmospheric instability, and they usually precede storm systems.
Mixed feelings are shown in the reaction of the people
Though a good number of residents were delighted with the mild winter sunshine, some said they were concerned with the abrupt change.
It was almost early spring, said a local resident, in the afternoons. But here it is still cold at night, and the rain is coming, and hail, and winter will not be over.
Residents and Farmers Advice
The government has urged its citizens to take caution in the next few days:
- Thunderstorms, do not be in open areas.
- Fasten loose items on roof tops and balconies.
- It is suggested that farmers insure against the risk of hail damages to the standing crops.
- During strong wind or heavy rainfall, careful planning of travel should be done.
A Larger North India Weather Pattern
Ludhiana Weather Update
The weather observed changing in Ludhiana is a component of a larger system that has affected other states in the north. Western disturbances in winter usually lead to sudden rainfall, hailstorms and decrease in temperature particularly following short periods of warm weather.
According to weather experts, these changes have been on the rise in recent years because of the changing climate patterns.
What to Expect Ahead
Although the coming days might have some difficult weather conditions, the authorities anticipate a gradual improvement in the weather after the disturbance calms down. Until that time, residents are recommended to be informed of IMD bulletins and make relevant precautions.
