The latest dummy unit leak of the rumored Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 “Wide” shows a massive departure from Samsung’s usual design philosophy—and it looks like a direct shot at Apple and Huawei.
Samsung is finally listening to the biggest complaint about its foldable phones: the narrow, cramped front screen. While we previously caught a glimpse of a white dummy unit floating around the supply chain, a brand-new leak has just unmasked the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 “Wide” in a stealthy, matte-black finish expected to be called “Graphite.”
This isn’t just a minor color refresh. The leaked dummy unit gives us our clearest look yet at a device that could fundamentally reset how Samsung builds foldables moving forward.

Goodbye “TV Remote,” Hello Normal Smartphone
For years, using the outer screen of a Galaxy Z Fold felt a bit like typing on a television remote control. It was tall, skinny, and notoriously easy to typo on. The Z Fold 8 Wide fixes this by radically changing the aspect ratio.
According to renders shared by reliable industry tipster Ice Universe, the outer display of this new “Wide” variant is almost identical in width to a standard Galaxy S26 Ultra. When closed, it will look and feel exactly like a traditional smartphone. But when you flip it open, you get a much squarer, passport-like tablet screen.
This design shift isn’t happening in a vacuum. The boxier dimensions heavily echo what Huawei is doing with the Pura X Max, and it lines up perfectly with early rumors surrounding Apple’s highly anticipated foldable iPhone. Samsung is clearly adjusting its sails to meet the competition head-on.
The Hardware: Flat, Clean, and Dual-Camera Focused
Handling the dummy unit reveals that Samsung is leaning heavily into modern industrial design. The frame is completely flat, the sides are squared off, and the overall profile looks incredibly thin.
Around the back, the traditional triple-camera housing has been replaced by a clean, vertically aligned, pill-shaped dual-camera module. Insiders suggest this setup will drop the telephoto lens in favor of a heavy-hitting duo: a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide sensor. It’s a pragmatic trade-off that likely keeps the device thin and helps differentiate it from the pricier Ultra line.
As for the rest of the body, the tactile power button and volume rockers sit comfortably on the right edge, while a standard USB Type-C port anchors the bottom frame.
July Unpacked: A Triple-Foldable Threat?
This leak virtually confirms that Samsung is splitting its foldable strategy into distinct tiers. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, the Z Fold 8 Wide will likely debut alongside a premium, ultra-premium Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra (the direct successor to the Z Fold 7) and the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 8.
The grand unveiling is rumored for a Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, 2026. If history is any indication, expect Samsung to also refresh its wearable ecosystem at the event with the debut of the Galaxy Watch9 and the rugged Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
