The compact SUV market in India is about to get a lot more competitive. Maruti Suzuki is putting the final touches on a heavily updated 2026 Maruti Brezza facelift, scheduled to hit showrooms this coming July.
This isn’t just a basic plastic surgery job with a few new badges and a revised grille. Maruti is executing a massive mechanical overhaul beneath the skin. By introducing a downsized turbo-petrol engine and a brilliant new “underbody” CNG packaging system, the carmaker is directly addressing two of the biggest complaints buyers have had for years: sluggish mid-range performance and lost trunk space.
2026 Maruti Brezza Facelift
The Return of Turbo: More Punch, Less Tax
The biggest headline under the hood is the introduction of a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine, paired with a smooth 6-speed manual gearbox.
For driving enthusiasts, this means a much punchier experience. The turbo unit pumps out 100 PS of power and 147.6 Nm of torque, giving you that satisfying mid-range surge when overtaking on the highway—something the current naturally aspirated engine occasionally lacks.
But there is also a smart financial strategy here. In India, sub-4-meter cars with petrol engines smaller than 1.2 litres sit in a much lower GST tax bracket. By swapping out the bigger engine for this compact 1.0-litre turbo, Maruti saves a chunk of money on manufacturing taxes—savings they are expected to pass directly to the buyer with highly aggressive pricing.
Don’t worry if you prefer old-school reliability, though; the trusty 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (103 bhp) will still be available on standard trims.
Underbody CNG: Finally, a Trunk You Can Actually Use
If you have ever owned or ridden in a factory-fitted CNG car, you know the ultimate compromise: the massive gas cylinder sits right in the middle of your trunk, leaving barely enough room for a backpack.
Maruti is completely rewriting the rulebook here by moving the CNG tanks completely underneath the rear floorboard.
Borrowed from the smart packaging architecture of the Maruti Victoris, this underbody layout clears out the entire cargo area. You get the ultra-low running costs of compressed natural gas without having to tell your family they can’t bring their luggage on holiday. It is a massive quality-of-life upgrade that will likely force other manufacturers to rethink their own setups.
A Tech-Heavy Cabin Built for Comfort
Step inside and changes are immediately apparent. The cabin steps away from the old, utilitarian plastic feel and moves into a much more premium space with higher-grade materials and an updated dashboard layout.
The centerpiece is a brand-new, larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It runs Maruti’s latest slick user interface and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
On the safety front, the rumor mill is spinning fast: insiders suggest higher-end variants might finally introduce Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). If true, it pushes the Brezza right to the front of the pack for safety-conscious family buyers.
Sharper, More Commanding Road Presence
While the engineering team was busy under the skin, the design team gave the exterior a crisp, modern sharpen-up:
- A bolder, geometric front grille that makes the car look wider.
- Deeply recessed fog lamp housings cut into a rugged front bumper.
- A massive silver faux skid plate that emphasizes its SUV credentials.
- Newly designed alloy wheels that give the side profile a fresh, athletic stance.
The Verdict: Keeping the Crown Secure
When it launches next month, the 2026 Maruti Brezza will square off against formidable rivals like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO.
By combining tax-busting turbo performance with a genuinely practical CNG layout and premium interior tech, Maruti Suzuki isn’t just defending its top spot—it’s actively changing the rules of the compact SUV game.
