Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Previewed Before India Release on January 19: What to Expect

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is to be constructed on the same platform as Maruti Suzuki e Vitara that will also be released later this month.

The month of January 2026 is once again turning out to be a historic month in the electric vehicle market in India. After Mahindra introduced the XUV 3XO EV and Maruti Suzuki is preparing to introduce its first-ever EV, the e Vitara, Toyota is about to enter the EV market. The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV has been officially teased by the Japanese automaker, and it will officially debut in India on January 19.

The Urban Cruiser EV is based on the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara that will also be launched this month. Although the construction of both electric SUVs will be on the same platform, Toyota is likely to distinguish its product by making design adjustments and differences in features.

The Toyota version has pixel-inspired DRL detailing as opposed to the Y-shaped lights elements located on the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which gives the car a more recognizable identity.

Other design features such as BEV badging on the charging flap are also present. The Urban Cruiser EV will have a close resemblance to the e Vitara in terms of size, proportions, and silhouette. Toyota seems to have however eased the creases in the body making it look more clean and less muscular. Alloy wheels will also be redesigned and will most likely make it stand out of its Maruti counterpart.

The Urban Cruiser EV will also have a similar layout with distinct colour schemes inside the cabin as the e Vitara. In the world market, Toyota provides the EV in the black interior theme, as compared to the black and tan theme found in the Maruti.
