2027 Toyota Innova Hycross facelift: Toyota’s absolute king of the premium family MPV market, the Innova Hycross, is finally getting a mid-life makeover. A heavily camouflaged test car was just spotted out on public roads, giving us our very first glimpse of what Toyota has planned for the 2027 model year.
It has been about four years since the Hycross first debuted back in 2022, so a styling refresh is right on schedule. Even though Toyota wrapped the test car in layers of black-and-white camo tape, it couldn’t hide a few massive clues about the upgrades coming our way.

When Toyota first introduced the Hycross, it completely changed the playbook by ditching the old ladder-frame chassis for a modern car-like platform and a rugged, SUV-style front end. Buyers loved it, and it looks like Toyota is leaning even harder into that tough aesthetic for 2027.
While the side profile, window lines, and rear spoiler look very similar to the current car, the front face was completely covered up. This heavy masking strongly suggests that the nose is getting a major redesign. Expect a bolder, sharper front grille and redesigned LED headlights to give it a fresh, road-dominating stance.
To round out the exterior changes, the test car was also riding on a brand-new set of distinctive multi-spoke alloy wheels.

The most intriguing detail from the spy footage isn’t what was added, but what was missing. On closer inspection, the test vehicle completely lacked a visible exhaust tailpipe.
This has sent the automotive world into overdrive with speculation. Is Toyota testing a fully electric, zero-emission version of the Hycross?
While Toyota hasn’t officially confirmed it, a pure electric variant would be a stroke of genius, allowing them to capture the growing premium EV market before anyone else can launch a proper three-row electric people-mover.
Trusty Hybrids Are Here to Stay
If you aren’t ready to go full electric, don’t worry. The mainstream versions of the 2027 facelift will continue to offer the highly reliable and incredibly fuel-efficient engines that made the car a bestseller in the first place.
Drivers will still be able to choose between two familiar options:
- The Petrol-Strong Hybrid: A 2.0-litre engine paired with an electric motor and a robust battery pack, pushing out a combined 183.7 horsepower through an e-CVT gearbox.
- The Standard Petrol: A 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine making 172 horsepower, paired with a smooth CVT automatic.
When Will It Arrive?
Because this is a mid-cycle update, the overall dimensions and interior space will remain just as generous as they are today. However, you can expect Toyota to refresh the dashboard, add larger screens, and upgrade their safety assist features to stay ahead of the curve.
With competition heating up from refreshed rivals like the Hyundai Alcazar and the Tata Safari, this 2027 update is exactly what Toyota needs to keep its crown. Expect an official global reveal sometime in mid-to-late 2027.
